Simulation & Characterization
The scientific activities of these four groups are focussed on supporting the remaining three departments with their crystal growth experiments. Besides these actions, the group performs its own research projects within the frame of the institute's research profile.
Many projects are teamwork, e.g. the continuous delivery of seed crystals for crystal growth processes requires the crystallographic orientation by X-ray diffraction (Group Physical Characterization) as well as mechanical treatment by different cutting and polishing techniques (Group Crystal Machining). Furthermore, preliminary numerical simulation and measurement techniques are necessary for many crystal growth experiments.
