IKZ mourns the loss of its scientific advisory board member Prof. Lena Kourkoutis

Far too early and far too young, the life of Prof. Lena Kourkoutis ended at age 44 due to a severe cancer disease.

Lena, originally from Rostock in Germany, worked as an associate professor in Cornell’s School of Applied and Engineering Physics (USA), mainly in the field of modern electron microscopy. She joined IKZ´s scientific advisory board in January 2020 and supported the institute on the implementation of its new scientific & technological strategy in recent years.

Lena was without doubt an outstanding scientist but asked about her most wonderful talent, we would like to state: By her always curious & inspiring way of thinking & discussing, she made the outcome of every meeting she participated in more brilliant than originally expected!

People like her are rare and so valuable. Lena, we miss you!
