The Einstein Telescope (ET) is a future gravitational wave detector in Europe. As a third-generation detector, it will observe more cosmic objects and look farther back in time than any other astronomical instrument. To reach this unprecedented sensitivity, it requires large, ultrapure silicon crystals that are not yet available in the necessary dimensions and quality. The IKZ, as an ET research unit, investigates the production of such crystals together with its partners in the international Einstein Telescope collaboration.
