Although the museum’s original location remains closed due to fire safety regulations, a temporary alternative has been made available in a prominent location in Marburg – the Waldecker Saal of Landgrafenschloss. There, a special exhibition lasting over two years will showcase highlights from 235 years of mineral collection history, alongside the most beautiful pieces from the Ingrid and Reinhard Balzer Foundation. The exhibition will be enriched with interactive stations and many interesting facts and stories about minerals and rocks.

The ´Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ)´ and the ´Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kristallzüchtung und Kristallwachstum e. V. (DGKK)´ were given the opportunity to participate in the special exhibition by displaying items in a showcase under the theme “Crystals - Key Materials for the 21st Century.” This contribution helps raise awareness of our work in the public sphere. The exhibition includes crystalline raw materials and exhibits, as well as graphics illustrating the use of these crystals in technical devices and everyday consumer materials. The IKZ contributed by loaning a silicon and gallium arsenide crystal, a gallium arsenide wafer, and images of various crystal growth facilities from the IKZ.
