The award is given to "researchers whose fundamental discoveries, new theories or findings have had a lasting effect on their discipline beyond their immediate research area and who are expected, moreover, to continue producing outstanding research in the future". The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation recognized Kookrin Char as one of the internationally acknowledged and leading pioneers in the field of oxides and related electronics. He is a research partner of IKZ and is involved in the framework of the Leibniz ScienceCampus GraFOx (Growth and Fundamentals of Oxides for Electronic Applications).

The price ceremony took place in Bamberg on the 23 – 26 March 2023, on a symposium for the Research Award winners, providing an opportunity for awardees to get to know each other as well as the members from the Foundation.

Professor Char had been nominated by the Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung and is looking forward to his research stay at the institute in 2023 and beyond. Although the award was already granted in 2021, the pandemic prevented travelling until this year. Now Kookrin is looking forward to visit IKZ and his partners from the GraFOx framework again, to proceed with the fruitful cooperation and exchange.
