“Working as a scientist, tech founder, microtechnologist: A day at the Adlershof Science and Technology Park” was the headline of this year's Girls' Day, which was for the first time a joint event of WISTA Management GmbH, Initiativgemeinschaft Außeruniversitärer Forschungseinrichtungen in Adlershof e. V. (IGAFA) Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) and Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und Prüfung (BAM).
For the girls from Berlin and Brandenburg, there was a lot to discover: Meet and Greet with successful female scientists and entrepreneurs at WISTA; laboratory experiments on solar cell production at HZB; and detective trace analysis at BAM.
At the IKZ, we demonstrated to the girls that crystals are more than just gemstones. With experiments, they stepped into the shoes of Jan Czochralski. With a lot of patience, they pulled tin crystals out of the inkwell.
Above all, the house-sized growing facilities seem to have made a lasting impression, as they have already been mentioned in the school newspapers of our young guests.
Due to the great demand and the very positive feedback, we plan to continue the joint format and next year even offer two groups of girls the opportunity to visit our institute.
